HP MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thursday the 8th of February, 2018.

“We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki (MEEG-MA-GEE), the traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq people”. We want to continue to honour our promise to them to live in peace and friendship.”

Every day for the rest of the month we will be sharing cool facts from Mr Walter for African Heritage month:
These facts are specific to black Canadian history.
On July 22nd, 1796, a group of 600 freedom-fighters landed in Halifax, NS. These immigrants, called Maroons, came from the Jamaican community of escaped slaves, who had guarded their freedom for more than a century and fought off countless attempts to re-enslave them. Many African Nova Scotians, specifically those of which that have roots in North Preston, have descended from the Maroons.

Mr. Tortola would like to say a big thanks to all those involved in the ski trip.  Teachers, thanks for volunteering your time.  Students, your behavior was awesome!  We can all look forward to another trip in 2019.
